Spring Rescue
May 23,2013. Monterey ,California. It has been a while since I last participated in
a heartpounding rescue of Steelheads trapped within an almost unhabitable pool of water
within the Carmel river. Specifically beneath the Millorca bridge.
It was around Four in the afternoon of May 19, 2013 that we heard about an emergency
call from a CRSA member who was patrolling with a federal warden along the river that day. They
spotted at least Two pieces of an adult Steelhead measuring approximately 32 inches
long. The species were actually dead lying at the riverbank near the rescue site.
Where at least six adult Steelheads more were nearly endanger of surviving if not rescued
immediately.
With the help of Brian Leneve,Roy Thomas,Roy Torres (federal warden) Frank Emerson and me,
right away we started to rescue the remaining Six adult Steelheads measuring approximately
from 22 inches to 32 inches long. All Six were rescued within a Two and a half hours elapsed
time. The species were finally released at the ocean facing the Carmel beach at around
Six Thirty in the evening of the same date.
Thank you for now.Till your next visit.

Hermanas Mayores 2012
September 22,2012.Quezon City,Philippines.
The 320th Fiesta Celebration for Our Lady's Nativity in Calbayog City,Philippines
on September 8,2012 has been a fruitful year for Calbayognons especially for the
family of this year's Hermanas Mayores; Maria Myrra Querol Emerson,Maria Oledan Querol and Lucia Oledan Querol respectively.
First, I would like to tell you something about Maria Oledan Querol.Aside from being
a mother to us Eleven children from our late father Paulino Querol Sr, my mother is a
grandchild of the late Placido Rama of Cebu.
Her being deeply religious is precisely because of her upbringing taught by her
elders who were once connected with Calbayog diocese since the early 1900's.
The late Placido, inspite of his good fortune in Cebu, migrated to Calbayog thru
the help of Spanish priest assigned to Calbayog by the Archdiocese of Cebu.
Since then, he became the first Calbayog Catholic Cemetery Administrator,Altar assistant to the Spanish priests saying masses in Latin at the Three altars of
the Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral in it's early years.
Not only that he assisted the priests in saying masses in Latin but he was also
being tasked as the chief cook for the Bishop's palace for decades until his
death in Nineteen Forty Seven(1947).
He relinquished his tasks being an eldest son of his family
in favor of being an assistant and cook to the priests of the
Diocese of Calbayog.
That's how deeply religious he was.And he succeeded in teaching his Three daughters
and finally his First granddaughter in the person of Maria Rama Oledan Querol.
The next hermana is Maria Myrra Querol Emerson. She is the Third child among the
Eleven children of Maria Rama Oledan Querol. Like her mother she also got
a blood of a deeply religious family. She lives now in Monterey,California,USA with
her husband Frank Tours Emerson who himself has a brother priest serving in the United Kingdom.
Lastly ,Lucia Oledan Querol is the Fifth among the Eleven children
of Maria Rama Oledan Querol. She is single and now lives in Vancouver,British Columbia,Canada.
In behalf of our family ,I would like to say thank you for all Calbayognons
who in one way or the other helped make this year's celebrations a more
meaningful and joyful to all of us.

A Representative
January 30,2012.Banning, California.
Since I started to write on this blog,I keep reminding myself
to feature no political figures or make at least a hint
related to politics. This blog is solely intended for small
ideas on my experiences related to universal themes such as;
leisure and places I had visited or environmental issues
that I love to advocate and something that will cater to all
irrespective of place in society or range of ages who would
wander to my web.
But today, kindly allow me to tell you something out of my
original genre to honor someone who is a friend to me since
my childhood. This guy happens to be my former classmate in
grade II. In my recollection of him, oftentimes in that era
in late Sixties,I can still remember a schoolmate, classmate
and a seatmate who was kind and generous.
Being a son of a city engineer at that time one could tell
that he was way ahead of us who were not so blessed with
a family having a good resources like money.
But still,he kept his manners and like most of us in his
class he acted as if he was just an ordinary kid like us.
While his mom was working at the same school that we attended
as a librarian, I can still recall today how grateful we are
that at that times when we were eating our snacks during recess
she would tell us to read books at a time.
For grade II elementary students like we were it was
really a big break to tinker, hold and read large books like
World Atlas,Encyclopaedia,Almanacs and so forth that
were available in our school aided by the USAID.
Forty two years later to be exact,we were at (Rick Torrijas)
a common friend's house in San Diego,California eating
and recollecting our journeys in life that made him to
represent our Ist district in Samar that made possible his
current U.S.A. visit in his capacity as a member of the
Philippine Congress' Defense,Disaster and Rehabilitation
and lastly in the most powerful Appropriations
Committee of the Lower house.
Good for you I told him and please continue to work for our
city of Calbayog and for Samar and the Philippines as a whole.
He advocated the implementation of Clean Air Act in Calbayog.
I felt elated to learn that my hometown is now upholding the
Global law that most of my former co-workers at Haribon
advocated so long a time in the early 1990's who collaborated
for the drafting, advocating, lobbying in the halls of the
United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) under the
leadership of our former Environmental Lawyers (ELAW).
For which in 1992 A World Treaty on Environmental Protection
was signed into law by no less than Twenty One heads of state
in Rio de Janeiro,Brazil's "World Summit for the Environment
Protection" on April 22,1992.
Lastly, I am hoping that Congressman Mel Sarmiento will deliver
his part of the Bacon for what he is now attending in his
current official visit to the United States as a Representative
of our Ist district in Samar or Calbayog in particular.
Kudos to you.

Thanksgiving 2011
Banning,California.November 24,2011.
It has been Three years that we were at the Morongo Barnyard
every time November comes. But this year, the Morongo Indians
opted to let those who wanted a free Turkey to just go and
picked their share at the Morongo Casino parking lot on
November 19,2011.
It might be a sign of hardtimes for the organizers since
they encouraged an exchange of Turkey with at least
Five canned goods.
When years before, they were giving Turkeys for free and
dry goods to the same people who were making lines at
the Barnyard.
That is why most were discouraged to appear on that day,
thinking that they might not be able to get something.
Just the same,Thanksgiving day has to be celebrated and
will continue to signify a cherished day for every
family to thank the good Lord for all the blessings
each family member received during the year and to share
it with those who mostly needed them.
Till then ,Happy Thanksgiving to all of us!

Calbayog Fiesta 2011
September 8,2011.Banning,California,U.S.A.
Paying homage to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
St.Anne seated,carrying a child on her lap.
Wearing royal blue robes and white necklines.
This image reminds us; faithful, parishioner and
particularly those who were born in Calbayog City,
where the ever enduring faith and devotion to the
Blessed Virgen Mary is beyond question.
In line with this, please allow me to express a wish
by asking our beloved friends and organizers to humbly
maintain and adhere to the original image by maintaining
the royal blue robes of St. Anne and the white clothing
for the infant Mary on her lap.
We are supposed to keep the traditional image everlasting
and not evolving.
Relative to this,I commend the Calbayognons in San Diego,
California for maintaining a replica (truly totally similar)
to that at the altar in Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral
in Calbayog City.
After all it is only faith, humility and simplicity
that the Blessed Virgen wants us to emulate aside from
praying the holy rosary as often as possible.
Faithfulness to the image must be adhered to avoid things
that mislead the eyes and faith of Calbayognons who are
used to witness it in it's original color and form.
Furthermore, seeing the replica image in San Diego,California
is just like adoring it before her majestic altar in the
Sts.Peter and Paul Cathedral in Calbayog.
Unmistakably beautiful that brings back childhood memories
of our humble beginnings and triggers a shiver on our feet
to prepare a flight heading back home.
Happy Fiesta to all of us.

Industrial Disaster
Banning,California.March 16,2011.
Since the start of industrialization just after World War II in the
early 1950's and mid 1960's,countries around the world kept dreaming
and continued to research on how to make an alternative sources of
energy that will outgrow the need to buy expensive crude oil from
the Middle Eastern countries that practically dictate prices thereof.
One among them is Japan.Through the years they developed a
sustainable energy device by designing and maintaining nuclear
reactor plants that boasted their supremacy in manufacturing
automobiles and enjoyed a stable and continued supply of
electricity and water.
Thus, earning them the symbol of power in the whole of Asia
and the rest of the industrialized world.Without noticing the
future impact of natural calamities such as an 8.9 magnitude
earthquake can cause trouble to the physical structures of the
reactors and the whole system of the nuclear plant itself.
Much more when a Ten meter tsunami comes along as what had
happened last Friday March 11,2011.
Twenty years,Forty years maybe too long a time to ignore
a possible risk of malfunction or simply to dispose off of
used rods and it's storage to see to it that it will not cause
harm to humans.
Eventually today as the whole world is watching and praying
for quicker resolution of a possible meltdown in Japan, the
rest of the humanity are risking patience, anxiety and fear
for their lives and that of their love ones who might get
exposed to harmful radiation.
Maybe now is a right time for other countries to contemplate
on reviewing and maybe set aside or reversing their desires
for developing harmful nuclear reactor plants to lessen the
burden of ordinary human beings who wanted just to live a
peaceful and healthy lifestyle.
This tragedy could be a lesson to all that ultimate desire
of earning too much money is useless when the price of doing it
is risking human lives. Where its citizens can no longer afford
to drink a clean glass of water and eat safe uncontaminated food.
To our well loved friends in Japan,I would like to extend my
deepest sympathy and condolences.

New Year 2011
As we ushered in the year 2011,news around the United States unveiled a vast concern about blizzard hitting the east coast, halting airplanes to take off and land at certain airports in cities affected by the snowstorm.
Stranded passengers were caught in planes without or limited amount of food, made some of their relatives worried and asking "when are they going to disembark their seats for a much comfortable couches or beds at their respective homes?"
Meanwhile, in Southern California, particularly the San Bernardino National
Park and Forest Falls, turned haven among visitors and campers who wanted to experience a winter getaway for the remainder of holiday season by enjoying snow boarding and by simply sitting on top of huge snow balls while the kids are mastering to mold the appreciative snow man standing
beside them. With $5.00 parking fee, every one can enjoy this natural wonder
within reach.
Happy New Year.Till then,
